The people! I workout to stay healthy, but truthfully, if the people weren’t great, I would find someplace else. My workout buddy, Michelle, and I have had so much fun trying new classes and meeting new people. The classes are always changing and new ones are added, or popping up, which keeps it exciting.
The instructors as well as members welcome you with a smile. Good Vibes Only! I love when I walk in and Kristen is “the greeter” and makes you feel like what you have to say matters. The instructors are so positive – always pushing you to do more yet celebrating all your accomplishments.
Yoga and planks! I used to think that all yoga was slow and boring (I’m a product of the 80’s where cardio was everything). Yoga is VERY challenging – and add in 95-degree heat, weights, and some cardio – you have a class that not only strengthens your body, it detoxes all the stress out of your mind too! You can’t think of anything else while trying to keep up with Bailey and Libby in a Hot Fusion class, or Lindsey in a Strong class. The reward? Shavasana and a cool towel.
Strength – Lindsey and Sarah; Hot Fusion – Libby and Bailey; Fun Favorite – always Marilyn’s Kickboxing
I never really liked exercise as I was growing up – it was “boring” I thought. My husband is really into it and one of our first dates in college was going on a “run” around the local park track. I thought I was going to die! He kept pushing me and I kept going at it. It still didn’t thrill me, but then I found HG (GVO), there was so much variety – it became addictive. I started in the 5:30am classes when I went back to work after raising my kids. Once I started working remote, I am flexible and can try different times. Now I come 5-6 days a week and if I have to miss, I can really feel it mentally and physically. Sometimes I bring my daughters when they are in town – that is a win/win in my life.
Don’t worry about how you look or if you can’t do all the exercises in the beginning. Just show up – everyone is welcoming and helpful. I’ve been showing up for nine years and still find it challenging. All of us are trying our hardest and no one is looking at you.
I love to be outside. 1. I know it was a difficult time, but the outside classes during Covid were fun. For some of us, it was the only time we went anywhere, so we were excited to see other and move our bodies. 2. The Grand Opening in the Field – again an outside class – great class from Libby and a live DJ, sweating and laughing it out with my friends, Michelle and Colleen!
