"Working out with a group of people is so much more motivating and FUN than going to a gym and using machines. I find I challenge myself more and do moves and use muscles I would never otherwise use. As I’ve gotten older, the mantra that plays over and over in my head is 'use it or lose it!'
When I’m in a class and an instructor gives a more challenging option, I always try and take it even if I don’t feel like it. I know if I was working out alone that would definitely not be happening. This is also a really great place to connect with other moms in the area!"
First and foremost, I prioritize my workouts. It doesn’t even have to be a full hour, 45 minutes gets the job done. When my kids were younger it was definitely more challenging. I would seek out gyms with childcare and when that wasn’t an option I was scheduling babysitters or grandparents to cover! Once they were a bit older I started bringing them with me. Now they know the drill and I try to save any tablet time for when I need to bring them with me to class.
Just get there. It will eventually become habit and you won’t even think about it. I always schedule my classes in advance and don’t book any appointments or engagements over my normal workout time. I think working out in the morning really helps too if you are able to make it happen. Every workout doesn’t have to be a 10/10; listen to your body. Some days, just showing up is enough. Find what you like and start with that.
It is night and day. I have to move and break a sweat every single day. If I don’t workout (which doesn’t happen very often) I feel unmotivated, tired, and my diet usually suffers! I also think skipping a workout is a slippery slope. As I said before - just get to the gym. The first 10 minutes are always the hardest and then it’s downhill from there. You don’t have to knock every workout out of the park. Get there and get it done you will never regret going and eventually it becomes habit and you don’t even think about it! It’s like brushing your teeth!
This is so random but Kelly Ripa. She works out with a trainer name Anna Kaiser who started a studio called AKT. It’s based in NYC and is a dance based workout with weights and looks SO fun!!
I really didn’t start working out until I was in college. I was a dancer my whole life so it wasn’t on my radar. I actually think I got the workout bug from my dad. As long as I can remember he woke up before the sun to go to the gym and still does!
Probably the night they announced I made the team. It was MANY years ago and if I remember correctly it was a long weekend of tryouts and I was ready to be done either way. I tried out on a whim and had no expectations but did my best and I guess that was enough!
In general dance instilled a love of music and movement which is why I think working out is so fun for me.
